There is some confusion among consumers regarding size and digital technology. Some have heard that only the small CIC hearing aids are digital. This is not the case. All of the above hearing aids can be fit with the newest in digital technology, allowing almost every hearing loss to be fit with digital technology. |
Behind the ear
(BTE) for more severe hearing losses. Battery sizes are usually either 675 or
13.
In the ear (ITE). For years this was
the standard size for in the ear instruments. It still allows for a great deal
of flexibility and is the preferred fitting for some hearing losses. Most use a
size 13 battery.
In the canal (ITC). Became very popular
as an alternative to the larger size of the ITE instrument. The battery size for
this instrument is usually a 312.
Completely in the canal (CIC).
This is the newest size offering and is quickly becoming the most popular size
being fit today. Most of the circuitry is located down in the ear canal allowing
the entire hearing aid to fit well into the ear canal. Although not all hearing
loses can be fit with the CIC sized hearing aid, it is surprisingly versatile
allowing many losses to be fit with this aid. The battery for this size is
usually a 10.
